Fatal motorcycle accident: One person was killed and three others critically injured when a teen driver slammed into a group of motorcycles Saturday in Palmdale.
• A teen driver was driving recklessly on a two-lane road when he lost control and veered into oncoming traffic.
• The car slammed three motorcycles head-on.
• One of the motorcyclists was killed. Three others were critically injured.
• The teen driver was suspected of driving under the influence of drugs.
The accident occurred at about 3:10 p.m., according to the Antelope Valley News.
California Highway Patrol officials reported that 19-year-old Jose Gutierrez of Palmdale had been driving a 2001 Infiniti G20 recklessly on Elizabeth Lake Road when he lost control of his eastbound vehicle near Godde Hill Road.
The Infiniti crossed over the center line into the westbound lane and slammed head-on into three oncoming motorcycles, according to the CHP report.
One of the riders, 58-year-old Peter Volden of Oxnard, died at the scene of the motorcycle accident.
Three others suffered critical injuries and were taken to Antelope Valley Hospital, according to the Los Angeles Daily News. The victims were identified as 41-year-old Danny Rincon of Westlake Village and two Moorpark residents, 60-year-old Richard McBee and 55-year-old Patty McBee.
Gutierrez, who suffered minor injuries, was arrested and booked into the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Palmdale station. He was held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
According to a CBS News report, Gutierrez was suspected of driving under the influence of drugs at the time of the deadly motorcycle accident. CHP Officer Tony Polizzi said Gutierrez was “being evaluated by one of our drug recognition evaluators.”
